Client: Harland & Wolff
Start/End Date: 2007 – 2008
Total Project Value: £2,000,000.00
Technical Demolition Services were awarded the contract for all phases, the project included the demolition of the former Harland & Wolff 3 story office building, these offices were historic and built between 1900 – 1919, other phases included the demolition and dismantling of ship buildings, repair complexes, shipyard cranes, slip ways and the removal of all asbestos materials located within the buildings.
The project was completed using 360 high reach excavators, complete with shear attachments and heavy lifting equipment.
In total 6,000,000 square feet of ship and repair buildings were demolished to ground level; large amounts of asbestos material were removed under full enclosure conditions and around 20,000 tonnes of ferrous material were removed from site and sent for segregation.
The entire site was cleared and this enabled developers to rejuvenate the land and build what is now known as the Titanic Quarter, it was at nightfall that Belfast witnessed the end of an industrial era.
